“Chisme” means gossip in Spanish and is often known as a shallow practice that only happens between women. The false assumption is that women spend hours discussing other people’s lives, but who has the time? Men also enjoy chisme, by the way.
Chisme isn’t just trivial gossip — it’s lifetimes of stories — the highs and lows, hobbies that bring our soul joy, and sad memories that are hard to process. Chisme helps us confront our pain and discover our truth without feeling judged or shamed by our traumas. I enjoy healing through my connections — it’s why I unapologetically share my chisme with you — this doesn’t make me a chismosa. It makes me powerful. While it’s never easy, I express myself to celebrate my self-worth and to help you resonate so deeply that you find yourself saying, “Same mija, same.”
