love lives here

November 2024

I carefully placed the pen down on the table after I signed my name. Reality started to sink in — I knew I achieved something huge for myself — again.

She placed the document in front of her, and as she signed her name, I kept thinking, wow, this is really happening

After she put her pen down, she immediately took off her reading glasses, momentarily paused, and said, “Carla, I need to tell you something.” I thought, oh God, what does she have to say? I just finished signing my life away.

She began, “Every tenant who lived in your apartment was single — just like you. They all moved out to go live with their partners or to get married! They all left me for someone else!”

We both started laughing as we leaned forward in our chairs! She gave me a high-five across the table — as if she knows the same thing will happen to me. I wasn’t expecting her to share that at all! Isn’t that something? Could an apartment be that blessed that it finds love for all its tenants?

When I left her house, I kept thinking about what she said and I couldn't stop laughing to myself about it! My lease is starting with love — being single and enjoying the peace of living on my own is self-love. What if she’s right though? What if my lease also ends with love — but for someone else? I’m not dating anyone right now, and I’m not interested in getting married, but the Universe can work in mysterious ways, right? Life is so wild!
