Mom is happy we’re friends

To _____,
We were meant to spend time in Dumbo today, but you weren’t feeling well. Mom likes that area of Brooklyn too, so I went there with her instead. We first went to the spot on Washington St. where all the tourists go to take pictures in front of the Manhattan Bridge becaue we also wanted to act like tourists and take a bunch of pictures. After, we enjoyed Venezuelan arepas in The Time Out Market and strawberry frosés on their rooftop bar.
Later, I led Mom to Brooklyn Bridge Park because she wanted to walk around for a bit. As we were approaching a particular corner in the park, I asked her, “Do you want to hear a funny story?” She nodded, so I began to share:
“Three summers ago, [your name] and I took pictures of each other right here in this spot. I gave him my phone and for some reason, he decided to take my pictures from a lower angle. After a minute or two, he stood up and right when he handed me my phone, a group of girlfriends almost congratulated us because they thought he proposed to me! It was so funny because we both didn’t realize that he got down on one knee to take my pictures!”
Mom had a playful laugh and a genuine smile. Her eyes even lit up a bit. Her energy reminded me when she:
laughed after all the times I shared something funny you said
sighed with relief after I told her you were safe — she worries about you when she watches the news and hears about the drama that happens in Brooklyn, specifically in the subway
smiled every time you called her ‘Mama’ before you gave her a hug
Mom is happy we’re friends. She always hopes you’re well.
